Transfiguration

My office is just around the corner from the Church of the Transfiguration, an Episcopal parish better known as "the Little Church Around the Corner." Regarded as an Anglo-Catholic parish within the Diocese of New York, Transfiguration is considered the "actor's church" because of its long history of ministering to the city's community of actors and people involved in the theater. The parish having been founded in 1848, the church itself was constructed in 1849 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With a beautiful collection of stained glass and religious artifacts, the church and parish house look like an English country church tucked amidst the highrise buildings of this neighborhood. When walking home I'll often step inside for a moment to savor the quiet and admire the windows. (The first image (upper left) is from a vintage postcard.)
