Orchids

Walking home last night, I spied these orchids in a shop window. I love orchids, but still haven't made it out to this year's orchid show at the New York Botanical Garden. There are just too many things to do and too little time.

BrianC, One of my cousins, a Baptist missionary in Brazil, used to smuggle orchids back into this country when she would come home for a visit. They grew wild in her yard in Brazil. (The Brazilians didn't care. They weren't an endangered species. It was the USDA that would have had a cow had they known.) Alas, I was never the recipient of one of these beauties, but I still see one of them from time to time in the home of one of the cousins.

Something tells me that I may have already told you that when I was in Art School, I did an internship at Phipp's Conservatory in Pittsburgh. I quickly befriended Stanley, the resident orchid tender. I tried to spend at least my lunch time with Stanley each day and I developed such an appreciation for these unique and beautiful flowers. I still can't believe how many different types there are and how exquisite they are. Thanks for sharing.
